The Future Is Now

“I’ve spent too many years watching people around me accomplish their goals while I sat idly by. I’ve seen too much success and happiness to not believe that it could happen to me. Yet, I’ve stood here waiting for my dreams to come and get me. The truth is, they haven’t. The future has arrived. It’s here. It is today. Now is my opportunity to make myself and my life what I have always hoped it would be. Yes, it’s true that their are circumstances beyond my control, and things I cannot MAKE happen, but what about all the other things that ARE in my control?”

This was the conversation going on in my head about a month ago. It’s one that has stuck with me and caused me to change for the better. I since have accomplished one major goal in my life that I can remember dreaming about since I was 9 years old but had grown too afraid to achieve. It was something within my grasp that I continued to ignore because of the effort that it would require. I could tell you what the accomplishment was, but it doesn’t really matter, because you have one of your own. The thing is, that ever since I made the choice to take that step, the doors just swung open for me. It was so easy, and now that I’m here, I realize that it wasn’t “THE” step, but rather “A” step towards becoming who I want to be. It’s like some magic map has been discovered, and now I can see all these plans and dreams that I didn’t even know I had. It’s been a liberating experience, that’s left me wondering..."What took me so long?”

The Word says in Phil 3:14, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” This verse implies effort through the word “press.” When I think of pressing something, I don’t think of it always being easy. Sure pressing a button is easy. Pressing a shirt is easy. Pressing a 200lb bar bell is not! At least not for me, but they all require action. They all require effort. I want to consistently “press” toward the mark. My mark is the calling that God has placed upon my life to live Holy and acceptable, to be salt in light in this world and to be the best person I can be. He has called us all to THAT standard, and to be the best US that we can be. That requires some pushing, but the reward of getting there is our ultimate happiness. So why do we wait? Why do we let laziness and distraction win? What are we waiting for? The future is NOW!
