DVD Review - Vantage Point

Starring: Dennis Quaid, Matthew Fox, Forest Whitacker, Sigourney Weaver, William Hurt
Director: Pete Travis
Rating:  PG-13

This was a cool concept movie - I immediately liked the idea of this movie. In Vantage Point, we get to see several different people’s experiences of the same event. Each of the people inch us closer to what really happened.

As you know from previews the President is shot, or so it seems to the crowd watching. From the moment the movie begins, you don’t have a moment that you can leave the room, you will be guaranteed to miss a part of the conspiracy. The movie feels both impossible and frighteningly possible at the same time. My only fault with the movie is that it doesn’t tell us why. The whole movie is set to explain how this heinous event could happen, but as to why these terrorist feel the way they do we are left guessing. Perhaps this is a good thing, because understanding their mind frame would take a much longer movie. The people that hate us in the world have reasons that are hardly entertaining, but watching them get caught (I know I gave it away, but really were you expecting them to get away with it?) is a lot of fun.

The movie is fast paced with lots of explosions and a cool car chase. I figured out part of the mystery fairly quickly, but some parts stayed a mystery until the end. I loved the way they incorporated technology into the movie. The bad guys and the good guys use it to accomplish their goals in the battle over the life of the president. All in all a decent movie, I won’t be buying it, but I feel I got my rentals worth.

Purchase Vantage Point (Single-Disc Edition).
