Unhindered - Be
Producer: Scott Wilbanks If you’re at all familiar with Teen Mania and their Acquire the Fire events - then you know all about Unhindered. The band has been a part of Teen Mania for many years - leading worship at their many events around the country. The ministry headquarters recently opened their own record label - and their first signing was none other than their in-house band Unhindered. EE-Tawo Records did a good thing by partnering the band with a proven producer - Scott Wilbanks (DecembeRadio, Third Day, NewSong). Unfortunately, even Wilbanks couldn’t take something that just wasn’t there and turn it into something magical, musically. The fact of the matter is this: Unhindered is a modern worship band - and expecting them to be much more than that - artistically - is really asking a lot. I mean - the album works in that aspect. It’s a rollicking modern worship record that fans of artists like Starfield, old-school Sonicflood, and Seven Places will surely like. From the aggressive and moving “We Will,” anthemic “Father Will You Come,” and radio-friendly “You Are My Creator” - fans of catchy, energetic worship music will surely enjoy much of what this record has to offer. However, like stated earlier, those wanting something other than paint by numbers modern worship won’t like the songs that Unhindered has created. Lyrically, the band also falls in the trap of writing too typically used phrases and words. It’s all a little too cliched for a band that has such a massive following and was recently signed to go national with their music. Overall, Be isn’t a bad record - but it’s nowhere near the kind of musical achievement that should have come from a band with this much experience (especially being teamed up with such a strong producer). Hopefully, the band can build on their sound and create a unique perspective to the worship movement. Until then - Be just isn’t it. Track listing: 1. You Are My Creator RATING:
