L.A. Symphony - Unleashed
Producer: Madlib, Flynn Adam, Cookbook, will.i.am (Black Eyed Peas), and Pigeon John
Them whacky boys from L.A. are back! Not just the current lineup, but former members Pigeon John, J-Beits and BTwice. The new album Unleashed is full of unreleased and exclusive songs, demos, and some rarities. If you have never listened to them before, then this album really gives you a good idea who these guys are and what they are about. If you want some originality, fun, creative hip hop with good beats, then you need to check this album out. If you want something more street and sounding like everything else on mainstream radio, then you will probably be disappointed. Most likely, if you watch MTV, you have heard their beats on shows like Cribs and Pimp My Ride. What I like most about this album, is none of the songs sound the same. Each track has its own flavor. I really enjoyed every track, but if I had to choose some standouts, I would go with “Break it Down”, “Idle Time”, “Universal” feat. Posdnus of De La Soul and “Church”. What impresses me the most about this album (and past albums) is it is Christ centered without being preachy. These guys are just real about their personal lives and that speaks volumes. They have been through a lot in their careers and still keep on doing what they are called to do. Before I end this review, I need to tell you to check out the track “Tour Bus”. It had me tripping. It takes a humorous look into what goes on in a tour bus when traveling those longs miles to your next show. It’s funny stuff.

I think 3 stars is a bit low for this one. It’s a solid album.
I really agree with the non-preechyness thing, though I have to say Sufjan Stevens is the master at pulling that one off.
