NEEDTOBREATHE - The Heat
Producer: Rick Beato, NEEDTOBREATHE, Roland
NEEDTOBREATHE was catapulted to the upper echelon’s of the Christian music community last year with the release of their Sparrow Records debut Daylight. The album and band became a hit among fans of Christian rock with the catchy rock hooks and made-for-radio hits like “Haley”, “Shine On”, and “Don’t Wait For Daylight”. The band did a bit of a hop over to Word Records and are now releasing their sophomore release, The Heat, to national audiences. The “sophomore slump” is definitely not what you’ll find with The Heat. What you will find is a band more sure of themselves as ever before and a definitive sound that sets themselves apart from other bands on the scene today (something their debut failed to do). The Heat is solid, southern-infused rock ‘n roll similar to the likes of Train or Counting Crows with a bit more stripped down approach as well on several cuts. The band knows a catchy melodic hook when they hear one - as displayed on cuts like “Signature of Divine (Yahweh)”, “Restless”, the fun “We Could Run Away”, and the Gospel-tinged “Washed By the Water”. Another album highlight - “Second Chances” - is a melodically driven tune that is sure to leave the listener wanting more. Lyrically, the band also seems to have grown up a bit more as well. The band covers everything from wears of the road ("The Heat") to worship ("Signature of Divine") and the bands beliefs ("Second Chances") to problems in the church ("Washed By the Water"). NEEDTOBREATHE wasn’t really hurting for fans before this album came out, and The Heat will help build the group’s fan base even more without any shades of doubt. The Heat is a strong album from start to finish.
