Switchfoot - Oh! Gravity.

Many scoffed at the notion that Switchfoot would release another recording so soon after the release of 2005’s Nothing Is Sound - an album that never really took off from a radio standpoint. New fans enjoyed the recording, while lifelong fans of the band didn’t enjoy it as much - crying for the band to return to the much more raw sound of the group’s first few recordings. With the release of the first radio single, “Oh! Gravity” and the digital download “Dirty Second Hands” - fans began to jump on board as Switchfoot seemed to capture the old sound while remaining faithful to their current musical leanings. Oh! Gravity. released the day after Christmas and is proven to be one of Switchfoot’s strongest efforts to date. Musically - the recording goes from the good ("Faust, Midas & Myself”, “Yesterday") to the great ("Circles", “American Dream”, “Awakening") to the grand ("Dirty Second Hands”, “Oh! Gravity”, “Amateur Lovers”, “Burn Out Bright") in its 13 tracks. Taking their earlier sounds and fuzing them with a more radio friendly sound - tunes like “Awakening” and “Burn Out Bright” will find older listeners of the band extremely pleased. However, the band gets more progressive and accessible on standout tracks like “Dirty Second Hands”, “Amateur Lovers” and “Oh! Gravity” - proving that the boys have many more great years ahead of them musically. Lyrically - the band sticks to their guns - focusing on living life to the fullest ("Awakening", “American Dream”, “Oh! Gravity” most notably). With Oh! Gravity. Switchfoot has again created an unusually strong effort. Much like Jars of Clay, the band reinvents the wheel with every release - and while some fans don’t appreciate it - those who enjoy high quality art and strong musical sensibilities cherish the group for it.
