Echoing Angels - You Alone

image

Echoing Angels is the latest new band to sign with one of Christian music’s latest major labels - INO Records. The group started off like a lot of local bands - working full time day jobs while honing their craft in the evenings. The band eventually landed at INO and are now releasing their major label debut. The band’s debut, You Alone, unfortunately doesn’t live up to the standard that the group’s debut smash radio hit, “You Alone” set. Rather than being an interesting take on modern worship, the album is instead a regurgitated sound made popular by AC-rock friendly bands like Casting Crowns, MercyMe, and Building 429. In fact, the album’s first cut, “I Will”, is a bit misleading with its banjo-intro. Instead of an Americana influenced track - it goes directly into another made-for-radio song that could easily be mistaken for a number of bands. Unfortunately, the rest of the record doesn’t get much better. The “been there done that” syndrome seems to get worse as the record gets going - most notably on cuts like “Let Go”, “Rise Up”, and “Coming Back to Life”. It’s not even that sounding like another band is necessarily all that bad - it’s the fact that the bands that they are sounding like sound better than they do. There’s just not much worth coming back to on You Alone. Hopefully the band can spread their wings a bit next time and try something else.
