Fee is one of the latest new signees to Christian music’s new superlabel - INO Records - home to such acts as MercyMe, Sara Groves, Caedmon’s Call, Chris Rice, Skillet, Phillips Craig & Dean, and more.  Fee, as a band, isn’t necessarily a readily known name in Christian music circles, but the band’s frontman, Steve Fee, has been around the modern worship scene for many years - touring with such events like the Passion Conferences with Louis Giglio and other praise and worship stalwarts like Chris Tomlin, David Crowder Band, and Charlie Hall.  Steve Fee has released two recordings independently before signing with INO Records and forming Fee with fellow band members Matt Adkins, Heath Balltzglier, and Brandon Coker.  Their debut album, We Shine, is not unlike what you hear from today’s modern worship leaders.  Their lyrics are vertically oriented, and their melodies are meant to incite corporate worship.  In those regards, Fee definitely shines.  Tunes like the debut radio single “Glorious One”, “All Because of You”, “We Shine”, and “You Are the Light” are all strong modern worship numbers that try to avoid the “christianese” label at all costs.  Musically, they are radio friendly, yet memorable enough to be added to a Sunday morning worship service - easily recalling the likes of Chris Tomlin or Jeff Deyo.  However, individuals wanting their modern worship to take a step in a more artistic direction (think Future of Forestry or David Crowder Band), probably will be annoyed with the band’s all to clever way of emulating other worship acts - most notably on tracks like “Burn for You” and their cover of Tim Hughes’ “Happy Day”.  They feel a little too much like clones of the modern worship movement.  Overall, Fee released a very promising debut with strong musicianship and clever writing.  Hopefully with subsequent releases the band will showcase a bit more of a unique sound as opposed to current modern worship trends.
