Mainstay - Become Who You Are
Producer: Luke Fredrickson
Mainstay debuted on the Christian music scene in early 2006 with the release of Well Meaning Fiction - a somewhat well received album among critics, though not really settling too fast among Christian music fans. They had a reasonable amount of time touring and respective radio airplay to release their sophomore album through BEC Recordings, the more Christian radio-friendly arm of Tooth & Nail Records (and home to popular acts like Jeremy Camp, Kutless, Jadon Lavik, and newly signed Bebo Norman). Become Who You Are is really more of an extension of the band’s first release - taking off where it left off. The album is again full of catchy melodic hooks and radio friendly tunes - most notably seen on cuts like “Become Who You Are”, “Believe”, “Where My Heart Belongs”, “Stars Are Singing”, and more. Comparatively, the band sounds much like their label mates Jeremy Camp or a more musically mature Kutless with shades of artists like Sanctus Real or Lifehouse thrown in for good measure. Lyrically, the band touches on topics like the Gospel message ("Story", “Where Your Heart Belongs") and praise and worship ("Stars Are Singing”, “Only One"). Fans of a more mature musical palette probably won’t enjoy the music of Mainstay too much, but their current fanbase and people who enjoy radio friendly rock ‘n roll ought to definitely check out Mainstay’s Become Who You Are.
