Mark Harris - Windows & Walls
Producer: Pete Kipley & Nathan Nockels
When Mark Harris released 2005’s The Line Between the Two - he had no idea that he would become one of the most sought after Christian music soloists today. After the break up of his long-time musical career, 4HIM, Harris saw success as a solo artist due to radio’s fond affection for his “Find Your Wings” single. After selling many copies of his debut solo record, Harris is releasing Windows & Walls, his sophomore solo release. Windows & Walls doesn’t really find Harris treading any new territory. Lyrically, he’s in lock-step with his debut - touching on everything from family life ("Writing On the Wall"), hope of a better tomorrow, ("I Will See Jesus"), the simple truth of the Gospel ("One True God” and “Let the Redeemed") and joy of the Christian life ("The Half"). These are the kinds of things that Harris has been writing about for the past 15 years, both as a member of 4HIM and as a solo artist. Musically, it is also more of the same. Fans of AC-friendly pop and inspirational music, like 4HIM, Casting Crowns, or MercyMe, will also find a lot to love. Producers Nathan Nockels and Pete Kipley have both produced a nice enough record for Harris, but there’s nothing here that hasn’t already been said or heard hundreds of times before by other CCM artists. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Harris knows who he is as an artist and isn’t afraid to stay comfortable in his own skin. Fans of more daring music might ought to look elsewhere, but fans of Harris or 4HIM will surely love Windows & Walls.
