David Crowder Band - Remedy
Producer: David Crowder Band It’s hard for me to put a finger on exactly when it was that I knew I was a fan of the David Crowder Band. I remember hearing their debut (Can You Hear Us?) and sophomore (Illuminate) release, and while I enjoyed them, I never really considered them something that I would keep coming back to. Between their second and third A Collision) releases, I instantly became a fan - probably due to the success of songs like “O Praise Him (All This For a King”) and “Open Skies” - as well as the group’s undeniably good live show. My new affection for the band instantly made me reconsider my obviously flawed views of their debut and sophomore releases. David Crowder Band is now releasing their fourth full-length studio recording, simply titled Remedy. I’m sure most people are expecting Remedy to be an extension of the band’s highly successful A Collision - making more clever interludes, witty song titles, and the conquer a hodge podge of musical styles. However, the David Crowder Band did exactly the opposite of what the fans expected, and they created an album of highly accessible pop/rock numbers in a straight forward album with little excess thrown in this time around. And that’s not at all a bad thing. Very few artists are capable of creating an album of 11 wonderful songs - with not one dud in the bunch. This is the David Crowder Band in their most straight-forward form to date - and they pull it off with great ease. The album is again full of songs of a vertical nature but more accessible this time around. Songs like “Can You Feel It”, “The Glory of It All”, “We Won’t Be Quiet”, and “Rain Down” all have qualities that would make them strong radio singles, yet at the same time memorable enough to be heard in a corporate worship service. Musically, they are more straight forward alt-pop - much like newer releases from the Robbie Seay Band or Delirious?. Even their least memorable tunes (like the first radio single “Everything Glorious”) are leaps and bounds better than any of the other copy cat kind of bands out there today. Lyrically - like always - Crowder and crew focus on one unique concept - and that is God’s consistency of being our healer and the remedy to any problems we may be facing. It’s amazing that David Crowder Band can continue to make some of the finest art to ever hit the Christian music scene year after year. It’s makes the anticipation for new music from the band that much more appealing. Purchase Remedy RATING:
