Sevenglory - Atmosphere
Producer: Don Chaffer, Quinlan, Ian Eskelin There is a marked difference between this album and Sevenglory’s national debut release on 7 Spin Music, Over the Rooftops. In fact, it’s one of the biggest artistic jumps between a debut recording and a sophomore outing that I’ve ever seen. Sevenglory’s debut release was a mixed bag of songs and sounds that were already very present in the Christian music industry. They were a youth group band to the fullest degree - and if you’ve heard one youth group band, you’ve heard them all. However, and probably much to do the producers this time around, Sevenglory seems to be more at home in their own skin on Atmosphere - their sophomore national release. Though there’s still nothing too terribly original to be found this time around either, it’s easy to see that the band is a more focused and cohesive unit this time around. Their melodies are stronger, the lyrics are more mature, and they’ve adopted a more identifiable sound. Atmosphere is shades of Sanctus Real, Downhere, and All Star United (much due to the production work of ASU’s frontman Ian Eskelin). From the moment you hear the opening strains of “All You Want” to the rocking closer “Show Me the Night” - you can tell that this is the kind of music that this band loves to create. Lyrically, the band focuses on many topics of the Christian life like living our faith, acceptance, life’s uncertainties and other common themes. It’s always a rewarding experience to listen to a band that has finally found who they are as artists and are comfortable being that band. Sevenglory still may have some ways to go before they reach real critical heights, but Atmosphere is three steps in the right direction. RATING:
