Story Side:B - We Are Not Alone
Producer: JR McNeely
Story Side:B was one of the few real break out stories of last year. After placing high in 2004’s Exalting Him Talent Contest, the band went on to sign with one of Christian music’s premier labels - Gotee Records. The label, which is also home to the likes of John Reuben, 4th Avenue Jones, GRITS, Sarah Kelly, and more, introduced the then-unknown band to the Christian music masses. The group’s debut recording went on to be a surprise hit and found the band a staple at Christian radio. However, there wasn’t much to separate the band from many others on the scene, despite the fact that they had a following. The band is following up their debut with We Are Not Alone - an album that does show growth in the band - at least in the songwriting department. Musically - the band still recalls many similar bands like Everyday Sunday, Seven Places, or Jeremy Camp. They have a knack for creating a catchy pop/rock melodic hook - most notably on the worshipful ballad “Be Still”, the strong album opener “Fall Down”, or the edgy “Don’t Let It Go”. The band is good at what they do, but where they really show glimpses of greatness are in the lyrical department. Songs like “Angels” (finding the balance between good and evil), “Sister” (hope to young girls), and “Tell Me What You Think of God” (in an in-your-face call to unbelievers). Overall, Story Side:B may not have found exactly who they are as a rock band musically, but they are heading down the right path lyrically. It may take a couple more albums, but Story Side:B is on its way to true greatness.
