Sanctus Real - We Need Each Other
Producer: Chris Stevens
Sanctus Real got their start with 2002’s Say It Loud. Their brand of anthemic arena rock gave them a reasonable start - though nothing to really write home about. Fight the Tide, their sophomore release, built on more of the same for the band - but once again didn’t really set them apart from the pack. The release of 2006’s The Face of Love, however, was quite a different story. That album asked all the right questions - much due to the success of the lead single “I’m Not Alright” - and solidified the band as one of the leading arena rock bands in the Christian music scene today. We Need Each Other, the band’s fourth studio recording, is another strong step forward for the popular band - once again abandoning the happy-go-lucking feel of much of today’s Christian music and embracing the more human and difficult sides of the Christian walk. Musically, We Need Each Other finds Sanctus Real pounding out stadium rock with the best of them - a la U2 - only this time gaining more of their own sound in the meantime. From the haunting “Turn On the Lights” to the anthemic “We Need Each Other” - it’s easy to tell that Sanctus Real is finally starting to feel at home in their own skin as a band. Whether it’s the pop/rock of “Sing” or the charming “Half Our Lives” - Sanctus Real gets it all right this time around. Lyrically - Sanctus Real has picked up where their last record left off - covering everything from legacies ("Legacy", “Half Our Lives"), purpose in life ("Whatever You’re Doing (Something Heavenly)"), or our need for God ("We Need Each Other"). There’s no denying that We Need Each Other is Sanctus Real’s finest record to date. The band has found their niche, and they’re pulling it off splendidly.
