Cadia - Cadia

Producer:  Otto Price, Rob Hawkins
Record Label:  Fervent Records

Cadia is the latest signee to rising label Fervent Records - home to the likes of BarlowGirl, By the Tree, Big Daddy Weave, and more.  This pop duo is comprised of best friends Courtney Myers and Tori Smith who became friends during the formidable highschool years.  The ladies decided to band together to form a group that spoke to the needs of teenage girls - not unlike the message we’ve heard from like artists such as BarlowGirl, ZOEgirl, Rebecca St. James, Britt Nicole, Natalie Grant, and others.  The group takes their name from the Greek word Arcadia - which means “a place of peace” - which is where they hope to take their listeners.  Cadia’s debut self-titled album will likely appeal to their core demographic - much like ZOEgirl did before them - especially with their work on the Revolve Tour.  Musically, Cadia doesn’t push any boundaries or try anything that isn’t already popular in today’s pop music.  In fact - if you’ve heard current music from Kelly Clarkson, Aly & AJ, BarlowGirl, Miley Cyrus, and Britt Nicole - you’ve pretty much heard what is available on this disc.  The girls in Cadia don’t have bad voices - in fact songs like “Trust In Me Now” and “Radiate” are all catchy and have very sing-alongable choruses.  That said - there’s also plenty to not get excited about here too - such as the bland music of “I’ll Stay” or the r&b inspired “Curious.” The good news here is that the label didn’t fall into the trap of letting the duo write their own material and pulled out all the stops to include heavyweight writers like Nichole Nordeman, Cindy Morgan, Ian Eskelin, Joy Williams, and more.  Even though the lyrics aren’t their own - at least they are strong enough and present the kind of message the girls are wanting to convey.  Overall, Cadia just isn’t that impressive of a debut for those of more serious music.  However, Cadia will likely pick up a good portion of listeners from the Radio Disney market and have a long career.

Purchase Cadia.
