Safe Haven - Setting Up and Tearing Down
Producer: Safe Haven
This is the debut release for Safe Haven. They self-produced the album without any label, and that is probably what saves the album. There are a lot of rock and hard rocks albums that are overproduced, slick, and void of the rough around the edges sound that good rock is supposed to have. Since Safe Haven has a “do-it-yourself” attitude, the finished product is a straight rock record that has a garage band feel - a good garage band feel. You can’t really pigeon hole the sound. There’s a little MxPx, a little The Killers, and even a little Seventh Day Slumber mixed in there. There really isn’t a bad song on the album. It’s fun, reflective, and straight forward without any lyrics that you need a master’s degree in poetry to understand - very accessible. There is a running theme of someone who is moving on with their lives and have written this letter to their friends to offer words of encouragement, forgiveness, advice, and even breaking off some relationships. My only knock against the album is the odd ending to “Back to Myself” and a couple of places where it seems like they are not sure what to do and just fill up the space just for the sake of filling it up.
