Re:Zound - Abandoned to You
Producer: J.R. McNeely & Ken Mary
New Vertical Shift Records band Re:Zound made headlines a couple years ago when they were named MTV’s No. 1 Undiscovered Band. Since then, the band has had a chance focus on their hearts for international ministry - including making history last year when they became the first Christian artist allowed to take the stage in Vietnam. The group is now releasing their national debut, Abandoned to You through Vertical Shift Record’s recent distribution deal with EMI Christian Music Group and Chordant Distribution. Abandoned to You definitely isn’t the kind of album that legends are made of - in other words we’ve seen an heard all of this before. That’s not necessarily a bad thing - as Re:Zound pulls off the catchy, melodic pop/rock extremely well - recalling the likes of Daughtry or more pop oriented acts like David Crowder Band. There’s some really solid, radio-friendly stuff to be found here - as soon most notably on songs like “Beautiful”, “Abandoned to You”, and “35 Weeks.” If Re:Zound’s goals with Abandoned to You were to find a bigger band base - then they’ve done it with this album and the help of producers J.R. McNeely (Relient K, Jeremy Camp, Kutless) and Ken Mary (Beach Boys, LaRue, Alice Cooper). Abandoned to You soars with Top 40 slick and polish. It’s a great entry into the Christian music scene for the band, but hopefully future releases will find the band adopting a bit of their own, unique sound.
