Addison Road - Addison Road

Addison Road really is quite the trooper.  The band has been making their rounds and gaining a formidable fan base for the last several years as an independent band before signing with INO Records last year (home to Chris Rice, MercyMe, Skillet, The Afters, Sara Groves, Fee, 33Miles, P.O.D. and many many more).  The band made a name for themselves on the independent circuit because of their great recordings and thanks to the strength of their front-woman Jenny Simmons’ vocal talent.  The question remains as to whether or not Addison Road could maintain that incredible sound - especially now that they are backed by some major label money and a talented producer like Chris Stevens (tobyMac, Shawn McDonald).  The answer is that Addison Road’s self-titled debut is likable enough, but it really lacks any unique traits to separate it from the pack - especially in an industry already overrun with female led bands like Inhabited, Superchick, BarlowGirl, Fireflight, and others.  Addison Road is definitely catchy, radio-friendly pop/rock - not unlike current stuff from BarlowGirl, Kelly Clarkson, or Jessie Daniels.  There’s plenty to like here - such as the radio hit “All That Matters” and the anthem “Sticking With You”.  The band even shines on the more soft moments - like the strong album closer “What Do I Know of Holy.” Unfortunately, all does come out as well - and it’s not that the band is bad at what they do - just a bit too predictable.  Songs like “This Could Be Our Day”, “It Just Takes One”, and “Run” have all been done before.  It’s not like Addison Road is just a run of the mill band - they’ve proved otherwise on the more finer moments on the CD and with Simmons’ great vocals.  Hopefully future releases will prove the band is more than a been-there-done-that kind of group.

Purchase Addison Road.
