Chasen - Shine Through the Stars

There’s been a relatively strong amount of buzz surrounding the new band Chasen lately.  Could it be that the band is the first signed to new record label OMG Records?  Or perhaps it’s due to the success of their debut single and smash hit “Crazy Beautiful”?  Perhaps it’s a bit of both.  Either way - one definitely has to question whether this new “it” band can live up to the hype that it’s set for itself.  The answer is both yes and no.  There’s not denying that this band has a large amount of potential.  This band definitely knows a catchy melodic hook when they hear it - and Shine Through the Stars definitely showcases and infinite amount of catchy songs made for Top 40 radio - reminiscent of other fluff bands like the Goo Goo Dolls, Story Side:B or Mainstay.  In fact, the band’s church worship roots shine through a time or two - as cuts like “All Creation” and “God & King” feature an almost corporate feel to them in their musical approach.  Lyrically, the band maintains enough spiritual ambiguity to not sound pushy in their message - but also outspoken enough to know exactly where the band is coming from.  This is most notably seen in songs like the hit single “Crazy Beautiful”, as well as tracks like “Doubts or Disbelief”, “Don’t Walk Away”, and “Stars Are Meant to Shine”.  There’s a lot to like here, and Chasen is definitely one of those bands to watch.  They are a bundle of potential waiting to explode.  I can’t wait to see it - better yet hear it - when it happens.
