Chris Taylor - Take Me Anywhere
Producer: Allen Salmon
BEC Recordings has slowly been emerging as a leader in the Top 40 side of Christian radio. This side of the Tooth & Nail Records family has always been more about the commercial side of Christian music as opposed to the more rock driven side - and recently has really been a force to reckon with - mostly due to the success of acts like Jeremy Camp, Jadon Lavik, and new signee Bebo Norman. The label seems to have struck gold again with the signing of Chris Taylor (no - not the former lead singer of Love Coma - a new one). This Florida-native isn’t bringing the folk-pop of Norman or Lavik or the more pop driven rock ‘n roll of Camp - rather something altogether new for the label - a more atmospheric, ethereal pop that features layers of synthesizers and vocals for a very accessible, yet different sound than what’s hot at radio right now. From the first bits and slow build of “Turn Me Around” to the layered vocals of “Take Me Anywhere” - this debut album is definitely a stand out. In fact, right when the listener is ready to write off Taylor as another po/rock wanna-be rock star - he throws in an unexpected morsel of yummy goodness that keeps the listener intrigued - like a striking instrumental moment or interesting programmed drum loop. It’s all enough to keep you interested from start to finish. Lyrically, Taylor is pretty typical of a writer - not too vague, yet not quite unabashed in his spiritual journey either. Overall, Take Me Anywhere is a strong debut for this singer/songwriter.
