Worth Dying For - Worth Dying For

Worth Dying For is a youth ministry based rock band out of Calvary Temple in Medesto, CA. Worth Dying For is their debut record with Integrity Music. Their sound is reminiscent of other bands like Hillsong United, Skillet, and Planet Shakers, though in my opinion doesn’t quite hit the mark. The first several tunes on the record include songs like “Revolution”, “Let It Out”, “Unite”, and “Crazy.” All the tunes are infused with a high energy rock, some screaming, lots of power chords, and overall, it feels like Worth Dying For is just trying too hard. Christy Johnson and Sean Loche share the lead vocals on the record. Both are strong vocalists, though I prefer Sean’s sound over Christy’s, and their harmony is enjoyable enough. “Consume Me Now” begins the middle of the record with a more worshipful feel. I liked the softer tones of some of these songs, but I didn’t feel like Worth Dying For really took advantage of the soft strength of these tunes. They jumped in with the heavy instrumentation too soon. I would have loved to have heard the song build more rather than going from zero to sixty in a single verse. There’s a certain musical and melodic monotiny within these songs that leaves you feeling like the CD will never end. As a music lover, I’m usually happy to get a disk that offers more than 12 tracks, but 15 tunes offering more of the same just seemed redundant for this record. A few saving graces worthy of a mention are “All We”, “At Your Cross”, and “Take Me” which were my favorites on the album, more so for their lyrical impact rather than their musical execution. I’m afraid I don’t have much good to say about this record, and as Simeon says, “they just aren’t memorable.” They aren’t offering anything different or better than what is already out there. I hope to see them try again with a less musically crowded version, then maybe, I’ll be able to hear what makes them “worth dying for.”

I strongly DISAGREE with this critique. I think they are Great and are just what the youth of today are in to. My guess is that the critic is an older person
