Telecast - Quiet Revolution

Telecast debuted on the Christian music scene back in 2003 with a promising future.  At the time, there weren’t a whole lot of artists who were tackling the brit-rock sound of Coldplay - and Telecast easily found a large following with that sound on their debut The Beauty of Simplicity.  Two years later, the band released Eternity Is Now.  That album wasn’t near as strong as the debut, and with the onslaught of musically similar bands, Telecast kind of got lost in the shuffle.  Three years have passed since then, and Telecast’s lead singer Josh White found himself back in the church leading worship.  That time there has helped develop the sound and feel for their third album - Quiet RevolutionQuiet Revolution is a much more worship oriented record.  However, it’s not the corporate feel of artists like Chris Tomlin or Matt Redman as much as it is the more commercial pop of worship artists like Leeland, Phil Wickham, or Delirious?.  There’s no denying the band’s affinity toward Coldplay - as this is another album that was heavily influenced by that brit-rock sound.  A lot of times, when artist takes on that artsy sound of Brit-rock with the worship bent - it comes off as a tug of war between the corporate and commercial sound - and unfortunately, Telecast falls into that fight here.  Lyrically, the band just can’t match what’s going on musically - and the lyrics come off as very shallow - most notably on tunes like “Beautiful Mystery” and “Anchor of My Soul.” That’s not to say that the band isn’t capable of writing a strong lyric - just look at “The Message” or “Shoreless Ocean” for a couple moments of brilliance.  Overall, this release with Telecast will more than likely get lost in the shuffle like previous works.  There’s just not much here to really set the band apart - and that’s a shame really.

Purchase Quiet Revolution.
