Run Kid Run - Love At the Core
Producer: James Paul Wisner
Run Kid Run made their debut in the Christian music scene two years ago with the release of the first Tooth & Nail album - This Is Who We Are. That album was a fun record that showcased the bands knack for creating impressive, yet never too serious, pop-punk music. The band is returning with Love At the Core - another strong effort from the band that continues down the same vein as the last record. Musically, if you liked This Is Who We Are then you’ll love Love Is at the Core. This record picks up right where the last record did - smartly crafted pop-punk - not unlike what you’d hear from Hawk Nelson or Stellar Kart with shades of Fall Out Boy thrown around for good measure. The debut single, “Captives Come Home”, is an infectious rocker with a soaring chorus, while “My Sweet Escape” showcases a clever pop structure with impressive piano accompaniment throughout - letting the listener know that there is more to this band than meets the eye. Lyrically, Run Kid Run does a much better job of pointing the listener to their spiritual beliefs, unlike recent works from Hawk Nelson and the like. In fact, the band even tackles modern worship on a couple of cuts - such as the album closer “Freedom” and “One In a Million”. The only real downfall with Love at the Core is that there isn’t much here that really sets the band apart from similar acts. They pull this sound off well, but so do a lot of other bands. Hopefully, future releases will find the band stretching themselves musically to find their own niche instead of just being another face in the crowd.
