Dizmas - Dizmas
Producer: Steve Wilson
Dizmas is “that band”. You know - “that band” - the kind of band that has always just sat on the edge of something greater. They’ve never quite attained it, despite gaining national exposure through a credible record label (such as Credential Records) or hit singles (like “Yours"). That, however, may all change for Dizmas. The band hopped labels, moving from EMI CMG’s modern rock label Credential Records to the more commercial friendly ForeFront Records (home to the likes of tobyMac, Rebecca St. James, and This Beautiful Republic). In doing so, the band is releasing their latest record - a self-titled album that picks up some tracks from the band’s well-received Tension and On a Searchin In America recordings as well as some brand new songs. Fans might be a bit speculative about this release - since after all it is just a retooling albums they already own. Dizmas, however, is a fine entry into the former-emo meets modern rock crowd - not unlike what you’d hear from acts like Jimmy Eat World or Fall Out Boy. There’s a lot to like here, but not a lot to really set the band a part. The four new tracks are tailor-made for Christian radio - most noticeably the catchy hit “Yours” and anthem “Worth Fighting For”. Lyrically, the band isn’t exactly the strongest - as they suffer from typical Christian music cliches a little too often - especially on “Different.” Overall, the newly remastered 6 tracks from the previous album don’t sound much different from the originals - but they do help maintain a more cohesive sound with the four new tracks. ForeFront Records put together a nice album for potential buyers of the band, but current fans can’t help but feel a big disappointed with this release. Unfortunately, they’re going to have to wear the label of “that band” for a little while longer.
