It’s hard to believe that one of Christian music’s most entertaining live performers has yet to release a live CD/DVD before now.  The same guy who made history as a part of dc talk never put his amazing live show in a video format.  That’s all changing with the release of Alive & Transported - tobyMac’s debut in the area of live albums.  The truth of the matter is that Alive & Transported has to be one of the strongest live recordings from a production standpoint to ever release in the Christian music scene.  Toby’s vocals are crisp and clear and all of the featured background vocalists and guest artists are front and center as well - really capturing the entire experience of a tobyMac show.  Each layer of the band and vocals are mixed perfectly for a great live feel - yet at the same time raw enough to know it’s not a studio version.  Featured on the disc are tobyMac fan favorites like “Boomin”, “Irene”, “Gone”, and “J-Train” as well as radio hits like “Yours”, “Extreme Days”, “Made to Love”, “Atmosphere”, and “Diverse City”.  In addition, Toby features some dc talk favorites like “In the Light” and “Jesus Freaks” to treat long time fans of the group as well as Toby’s recent solo success.  Toby isn’t known for being the strongest vocalist in Christian music, and even though things aren’t perfect here, he does put on a fantastic show.  The energy just oozes from the speakers as Toby moves in and out of songs and freshens up older tunes to maintain their relevance.  Overall, Alive & Transported really does transport the listener into the live setting - making them feel as if they are front and center at a real show.
