Klaus - Glory: An Evening of Worship with Klaus
Producer: Klaus & Julian Collazos
German born, American/Canadian raised worship leader, Klaus burst on the scene this month with his first major release with Integrity. Klaus has recorded six other projects in the past four years, several of which were recorded with Christ for the Nations Institute where Klaus attended school and later had the esteemed position as worship leader for the acclaimed school. Glorious (2004), Overtaken (2005) and Light of the World (2005) were all C.F.N.I. releases. Even when Klaus started making music on his own, he often returned to the campus to capture the overwhelming spirit of worship present in their worship services on his recordings. Klaus’ Healing Waters was released in 2005 as well, followed that same year by a long awaited instrumental worship album called The Invitation. Klaus is an anointed pianist, and it is often the musical interludes he plays between songs that take the listener to an almost heavenly experience in worship. In 2006, Klaus recorded One Thing. Fellow C.F.N.I. graduate, Kari Jobe was featured on this disc as well. Integrity recognized the difference in Klaus’ music after hearing his newest project. They were excited about the record, but wanted Klaus to drop some of the worship standards he included and replace them with a few more of his original tunes from his previous recordings. Integrity asked Klaus to record another night of worship. The two nights were combined in this seamless effort to create Glory. Friends Kari Jobe and Elisabeth Clark are also featured on the album. Klaus’ style is much simpler than the over produced, over played, and over sung worship that seems to be the trend. Not that I don’t enjoy some of that, but after a while, it’s just noise. The moment I put this disc in my player, I knew this was something different. Klaus flows beautifully into times of spontaneous worship that seem to express the very heart of God towards his children, and at other times the song of a true worshiper. There are entire songs on this record that were written in the very same moment they were being recorded, as well as songs that have been written in previous times of spontaneous worship. This album is for more than listeners. It is for worshipers. It covers all the ranges of emotion and expression in worship, from jumping up and down on tunes like “The Lord Reigns” and “I Give You Glory,” to bowing in stillness and awe on songs like “Stay Amazed.” “Running” is one of my favorites, and it inspires us to seek higher places in our spirituality by focusing on God. “Glory” the title cut of the record is another favorite with its simple, but sufficient lyrics. It’s easy to worship along the first time you hear it.
Without a doubt this CD is executed with excellence, but it is not the best musically, lyrically, melodically or vocally that I’ve heard in my life. There are greater
