Brooke Barrettsmith - Brooke Barrettsmith
Producer: Aaron Sprinkle
Brooke Barrettsmith knows Chris Daughtry. She also know Katharine McPhee, Taylor Hicks, Elliott Yamin, and others from the 5th season of American Idol. That’s because Brook auditioned for the hit TV show and made it all the way to Hollywood and the Top 50 before being cut from the reality competition. Things worked out great for Brooke despite not making it onto the show. Brooke eventually went on to hone her craft and was signed to Essential Records for the release of her debut nationwide album - simply titled Brooke Barrettsmith. Brooke’s debut album picks up where Krystal Meyers left off - meaning where Krystal could have gone a bit harder and edgier with her music - that’s where Brooke starts off. Producer Aaron Sprinkle (known more for his work with Tooth & Nail Records band) helps Brooke maintain a consistent edge to her songs - even if they at times feel a bit too tailor-made for rock radio. It’s easy to throw musical comparisons like Flyleaf, Paramore, and Kelly Clarkson out there - because that’s really who Brooke sounds like. Tunes like “Right Now”, “Farewell”, and the catchy “OK” all feature Brooke’s vocals soaring over the melodies. She knows how to pack a punch vocally - and she does it very well on this her debut. Musically - it’s all very good - but Brooke teeters between the original and cliched a little too much lyrically. The songs speak mostly of being a strong, young woman who follows Christ - it’s just those topics have all been done before - and at times much better - especially on the awkward “Quiet My Heart”. Overall, Brooke Barrettsmith is a strong showing for the artist - but it also shows some areas of much needed improvement. Hopefully this won’t be last we hear from the budding singer/songwriter.

I was disappointed with this CD. Didn’t seem to really go anywhere in my opinion. Her lead single “Farewell” sounded too much like Fireflight’s “Unbreakable” to really stand out to me as worth the $.
The reference about Krystal Meyers was ok- but i am wondering if you meant that in a good way or a not-so-hot way?
I think Krystal Meyers New album will be a knock-out success (or should be for CCM) it’s fresh, new, and different- which is what the industry needs-
Ms. Barretsmith sounded too much like everybody else on the radio
