This Beautiful Republic - Perceptions

image

Producer:  Allen Salmon
Record Label:  ForeFront Records

This Beautiful Republic got quite a bit of mileage out of their debut ForeFront Records release - Even Heroes Need a Parachute.  Even though the album wasn’t the biggest release from a new artist and wasn’t the best release of 2007 - it did earn the band quite a reputation at radio - being played on everything from AC to ROCK radio.  The band is set to keep the pace with their sophomore outing - Perceptions.  Produced by Allen Salmon (MuteMath), Perceptions starts off the melodic and toned down “Pain” before switching into the driving “Surrender Saved My Life”.  This Beautiful Republic switches between hard rock, pop/rock, and punk/rock pretty seamlessly.  The band definitely knows how to rock out - specifically on tracks like “My God” and “No Turning Back”.  However, where the band really shines is in their more pop flavored moments - specifically songs like “Learning to Fall” and “Beautifully Broken.” The band knows how to write a catchy hook, and even though they excel at rocking out - they really shine in the more radio-friendly moments.  Lyrically, the band is a pretty straightforward Christian rock act - focusing on everything from worship ("For the Life of Me"), making a difference ("Change the World"), and surrender ("Beautifully Broken").  Perceptions definitely builds on This Beautiful Republic’s debut.  The songs are that much stronger this go around - although still not a lot that will separate them from similar themed bands.

Purchase Perceptions.
