Family Force 5 - Dance or Die
Producer: Joe Baldridge & Solomon Olds Family Force 5 debuted on the Christian music scene in 2006 and instantaneously became the industry’s premier party band. The group’s infectious songs and hyped up live shows earned them a very large following. The band left Gotee Records and joined the Tooth & Nail Records family - a label that seemed like a much better fit for the band. Family Force 5 released a three song EP earlier this year to give fans a taste of their new sound. The band has all but abandoned their hard-edged rock for a more synth-heavy, 80’s dance rock sound. Family Force 5’s Dance or Die is 11 tracks of in-your-face dance-rock - a cross between The Killers and Duran Duran with a less-polished appeal. It’s easy to hear that Family Force 5 is having the time of their lives on upbeat and aggressively synth heavy songs like “Dance or Die”, “Fever”, and “Wake the Dead”. “The First Time” is great power-pop and another album highlight, while the grunge influenced “D-I-E 4 Y-O-U” features the bands trademark screaming vocals. Lyrically, Family Force 5 has never been known as one of the industry’s highlights - and they don’t get much better here - especially on the overly simplistic “Wake the Dead” or “Party Foul”. However, fans of the band know good and well that the band isn’t known for complex lyrics or new thoughts - rather they know they’ll get a CD destined for great times. Fans of the more aggressive rock of the band’s debut - Business Up Front, Party In the Back will surely be disappointed by the band’s new sound. However, people in need of great party, dance-rock shouldn’t look any further. Dance or Die is a fantastic entry into the band’s small catalog. Purchase Dance or Die RATING:
