Brandon Heath - What If We

image

Producer:  Dan Muckala
Record Label:  Reunion Records
Website:  http://www.brandonheath.com

Brandon Heath surprised everyone - and probably more-so himself - this year when his name was called as the winner of the New Artist of the Year trophy at this year’s GMA Music (Dove) Awards.  He made a mild splash with his debut single, “Our God Reigns”, but his album had a very slow build with the release of “I’m Not Who I Was” to radio.  That song earned Heath a large following - and with that a sophomore release with Reunion Records.  What If We, his sophomore outing, follows the blueprint of his successful singles “I’m Not Who I Was” and “Don’t Get Comfortable” over the worship oriented cut “Our God Reigns”.  Musically - the best description for What If We is folk-country meets more rhythmic/hip hop based singer/songwriters.  Think Mat Kearney or Shawn McDonald in a cowboy hat and boots.  It’s a style that works well for Heath - especially on cuts like “Give Me Your Eyes”, “Wait & See”, “Sunrise”, or the Beatles-eque “Sore Eyes”.  These songs are just catchy and their melodies extremely melody - which should work well for Heath on the radio.  Lyrically, What If We focuses on building each other up from a community perspective (hence calling the recording What If We instead of What If I).  This is especially seen in “Give Me Your Eyes” and “Fight Another Day”.  Heath also tackles love and heartbreak as well - as seen on “Sore Eyes” and exquisitely written “London”.  Another album highlight, “Love Never Fails” - is Heath’s take on the overly used 1 Corinthians 13 passage - though Heath’s comes off better than normal.  Heath receives helps from some leading songwriters as well here, including Jars of Clay, Jason Ingram, and Christy Nockels - all of which seem to bring the best out of him.  Overall, What If We is easily one of the best sophomore albums to release this year.  Heath has seemed to figure out who he is as an artist - accentuating everything that made his debut album so great here.

completely agree with the above comment, the internet is with a doubt growing into the most important medium of communication across the globe and its due to sites like this that ideas are spreading so quickly.

hello Mr Brandon Heath,
I just wanted to say I love your song “wait and see” it gives me hope for my preemie son. He was born at 6 months old and god gave him a lot of hoops to go through and he’s made it through every single one of them. Hearing your song gives me courage to stay strong with him so he can grow up big and healthy too. Thank you and my God bless you

Why are the younger generation attracted towards the western culture and lost faith in our culture?
