A few years ago, Spring Hill Music Group (the industry’s premier inspirational label - known for acts like Scott Krippayne, Babbie Mason, and The Martins) announced they would be branching off into modern music.  They unveiled Slanted Records.  With this new venture came singer/songwriter Charity Von and a fantastic rock band no one had ever heard of - DecembeRadio.  Their debut album released in 2006 with little fan fair - though the critics seemed to be in agreement that they were definitely a band not to be missed.  That all changed when the band released the song “Drifter” to radio.  DecembeRadio was an overnight success with that song and soon released a special edition of their self-titled debut album with another hit song “Find You Waiting” included.  The southern-fried rockers are back with the sophomore outing Satisfied.  They’ve again teamed up with Scotty Wilbanks (NewSong) for this record which seems to pick up right where DecembeRadio left off.  Satisfied is southern rock at its finest with elements of blues and Gospel thrown in as well.  The band tears through rock songs like “Better Man”, “Satisfy Me”, “Gasoline”, and the Gospel-tinged “Powerful Thing” like few bands on the scene can do today - recalling old-school Third Day, Black Crowes, and Foreigner.  There’s just a lot to like here with DecembeRadio’s extremely catchy melodies and crunching guitars.  The band also has their fair share of AC-oriented pop - especially on the Top 40 sounding “For Your Glory” and album highlight “Look For Me”.  Musically, the band pushes on all cylinders, but lyrically, they remain pretty weak.  Typical Christian music cliches and topics are seen here - especially on cuts like the overly simplistic “Believer”, “Gasoline”, and tired “Be Alright”.  However, lyrics have never been the band’s strong suit - and Southern Rock as a whole has never been known for their thought provoking sentiments - which makes DecembeRadio’s moments of weakness all that more acceptable.  You won’t find a band that makes a more enjoyable disc than this - it’s exciting and it’s fantastic.
