Becoming the Archetype - Dichotomy
Producer: Devin Townsend Coming straight out of Solid State Records, Becoming the Archetype released their third album Dichotomy. Produced by metal legend Devin Townsend (Lamb of God, Bleeding Through), the guys retain their trademark technical style of playing and have proven that with time you only get better. This is a tribute to the works of C.S. Lewis, and it explores the theme of man versus machine. The good thing about the death-metal subgenre is with the heaviness of the sound, it doesn’t sound ridiculous when the lyrical matter is heavy also. It’s almost refreshing to hear a band actually talk about the anger of God and the results of our sin and abandonment of God instead of the constant songs about the love of God like you hear in so many other christian songs. Not that theres anything wrong with that. It’s just nice to hear a change. Taking a small break from the heaviness, BTA throw in some keyboards in a couple of songs that will make you go “huh?” Are they trying to sound a little more like Between The Buried and Me? One suprise on the record is a cover of “How Great Thou Art”. It’s done very well and makes you think of some other hymns that could be covered. There are a couple of guests on the albums including Ryan Clark (Demon Hunter) and the coolest guest of all, Aslan. Yep, that Christ like beast from the The Chronicles of Narnia roars on the last track. Purchase Dichotomy RATING:
