Mike Farris is definitely not a name that is readily familiar among fans of Christian music.  Farris was frontman of the blues-rock hybrid mainstream band The Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies in the 90’s - a band that also managed to score a top 10 hit and open for acts like Dave Matthews Band, Blues Traveler, and Sheryl Crow and many more.  After that band disbanded, Farris got involved with other bands and toured as a mainstream blues act for many years.  During his time on the blues scene, Farris quickly got wrapped up in a world of drugs and alcohol addiction before becoming a Christian only a couple years ago.  Farris released one previous record before Salvation In Lights, and it only hinted at Farris’ newfound faith.  Farris takes his unashamed approach to his life one step further on Salvation In Lights - a blues-rock album full of old time classics and new songs.  Salvation In Lights is a tribute of sorts to Farris’ lifelong love for Gospel music and the sounds of the south.  Everything Is represented well here - such as the sounds of Memphis blues or Louisana swing.  Fans of the likes of a more raw Jonny Lang, Glenn Kaiser, Marty Stuart, and shades of Johnny Cash will love everything about this release by Farris.  The listener is instantly taken in by Farris’ impressive vocal skills - most notably on tunes like “Can’t No Grave Hold My Body Down”, “The Lonely Road”, “Selah! Selah!”, and “Precious Lord Take My Hand”.  Farris’ vocals are a unique mix of the blues of the south and the at-home Gospel feel of a Southern church.  The newer cuts, such as “Selah! Selah!”, “Devil Don’t Sleep”, and “I’m Gonna Get There” have a very memorable sound and fit right alongside the classics - and they are almost instantly recognizable.  Overall - Farris is accumulating a lot of buzz lately - as he should be.  Salvation In Lights is one of the best examples of mainstream music with a faith-based approach.  Farris is a phenomenal talent that shouldn’t go unrecognized.
