Joe Henschel - Capture Me
Producer: Jonathan MacIntosh Joe Henschel was once a part of Farewell Down - an up and coming band in the San Diego music scene (a place where a little band called Switchfoot came out of). Henschel left the band after feeling drawn to a more worship oriented career. He partnered with Jonathan MacIntosh (Chasing Furies) to release his debut solo record - Capture Me. Capture Me is modern worship at its best - big dramatic songs, uptempo pop numbers, and the occasional brooding ballad. Most of the songs were written by Henschel - and he’s got a knack for writing some truly express songs - not too original, but also not the worst we’ve heard from the modern worship movement. Cuts like “My Heart Speaks,” “You’re My Victory,” and “Creation Cries Out” are all strongly written. Musically, Henschel falls squarely in the “Brit-rock” style of music - similar to popular artists Coldplay or Keane. Musically, highlight tracks include the epic title cut “Capture Me,” “Grace Falls,” and “Sweet Breath of God.” Surprisingly, probably the two strongest cuts are the only covers. His cover of Matt Redman’s “You Never Let Go” is a great pop version of the song, while Delirious? popular “Majesty” helps to elevate the record to new heights. Overall, Joe Henschel will likely be a welcome addition to many fans of modern worship. He’s not the most original artist that has been introduced to the market, but he’s just interesting enough to not fall off the radar either.
